Limited answer your questions
At Medical Resources Limited, we are experts in therapeutic footwear and orthotic insoles for diabetic patients. We have the experience and the knowledge to help you build a successful therapeutic footwear program at your medical facility. We know you and your patients may have some questions about therapeutic footwear and we hope we have answered some of your questions below.
FACT : Proper foot care plays an essential role in managing diabetes. Diabetes frequently leads to foot problems which can result in hospitalization. Diabetics have a high risk for foot disorders which can be complicated without proper therapeutic footwear. Improper footwear can cause ulcers or sores on the feet which could result in an infection, or more
seriously, an amputation.
FACT : Studies have shown that diabetic shoes play an important role in reducing the occurrences of ulcers and sores. Well-fitted and moldable insoles reduce chances of sores and ulcers developing. Even if foot complications are not an issue, preventative measures should be taken to avoid foot complications later in life. Diabetic shoes allow diabetic patients to maintain an active lifestyle.
FACT : Diabetic patients tend to experience swelling of the feet throughout the day. At Medical Resources Limited, our therapeutic shoes are available with Velcro closure to accommodate swollen feet. Stride Lite™ Ultra Depth diabetic shoes provide the extra room needed to comfort feet and reduce the chance for sores from developing.
FACT : To benefit fully from prescription shoes, protective footwear should be worn all the time. Different activities may require different corrective footwear. The biggest cause for skin ulcers is improper footwear. Certain activities should be avoided if proper therapeutic footwear is not available. MRL diabetic shoes can provide relief and comfort
for most activities.
FACT : Proper therapeutic footwear is necessary whenever feet have weight on them. Diabetic shoes should be worn all of the time. When wearing shoes is not an option, such as when showering, a diabetic patient should sit rather than put pressure on the feet without proper diabetic footwear. Exercise that does not put excessive amounts of pressure on the feet, such as bicycling, is recommended for patients in need of diabetic footwear.
FACT : Surgery is not a way to cure foot problems, only repair problems such as exostosis on toes or correct a big toe that is bending inward. Surgery may provide relief, but diabetic patients must wear proper therapeutic footwear to prevent re-occurring damage. Stride Lite™ diabetic shoes are comfortable to wear and are beneficial to patients who don't want to go through the pain and cost of surgery.
